Are you ready for the Zombie Apocalypse? Do you have priority seating? Come get a front row seat in World of Zombies! The social game that allows you and friends to repel the zombie horde and re-establish society in your own view! As long as that view consists of heavily fortified makeshift gardens, foundries, and Super S-Marts.
WoZ was a fun project that worked kinda like one of the -Ville games but with a bit more actiony aspect. You got to assign out characters to scout, defend, invent, and build. There were also random hero characters that would come to town and perform special tasks.
The game went through a seemingly endless redesign phase. When we started, the client kinda left it open slate to design it and so I went with the more “realistic” cartoony versions that you see in a lot of these slides. I thought it was looking really great and cool. The client decided they wanted it to go more cartoony. Then a lot more cartoony, then less, then whatever. They weren’t really ever sure where they wanted the game style to be or who the end audience would be. I did a ton of the prep and concept work as you can see but then I had other projects come up and so I am unsure of this game’s fate. (It could look totally different again by now with monkeys riding taco-bikes and shooting eraser grenades.)
It was a lot of fun to do all the sketches and pieces for this one! I hope the end product has at least some of these same elements (although I do prefer my early versions of art on it.) The 3D buildings and environment art was created by the talented Mark Lemmons.
